Eleanor is instructed in a variety of criminal work, both for the Prosecution and Defence.

Fraud/ Insider Dealing

Eleanor's fraud practice has flourished over recent years, particularly in the niche areas of insider dealing. This specialism follows a period of time on secondment to the FSA working on their largest and most high-profile conspiracy case to date, Operation Saturn. As a result of this, she has since been instructed as a junior in one of their other operations; a case in which she has been involved since before the search.

Eleanor is on the SFO's B list and was recently led in an SFO trial (Tahir Tandoori Frozen Foods Ltd, R v Khatab and others). As part of this, she helped draft the SFO's first Serious Crime Prevention Order (SCPO). She is experienced in dealing with large, document heavy cases often with significant reliance on digital evidencing and telecoms analysis. She regularly prosecutes on behalf of the DWP and RCPO and also acts for the defence.

Drug offences, Disclosure Issues and Informants

She has considerable knowledge of drug offences and especially those where informants are used. Eleanor was involved in all aspects of Operation Brandfield, (R v Ashraf Chaudhrey and others CA, R v Vernett-Showers and others CA), which examined the use of participating informants in controlled deliveries of heroin. Her work included advising on the safety of other convictions in which the same techniques had been used. Many of those cases were referrals by the CCRC and therefore Eleanor is used to dealing with cases with their involvement. She regularly prosecutes both intent to supply and importation cases.

Serious violence, sexual offences and other matters

Eleanor has considerable experience in serious violence and sexual offences cases, acting both for the Prosecution and the Defence. She has been led in an attempted murder trial (a drive-by shooting), and is now appearing for the Crown in the appeal against conviction. She has also been led in two lengthy child cruelty trials which had extensive social services involvement, one of which involved the sexual assault of a 9 month old. On the defence side, she recently secured the acquittal of a teaching assistant charged with arson at her school.

Confiscation and other Proceeds of Crime matters

As a result of her work in Fraud and Drugs offences, Eleanor deals frequently with confiscation matters, money laundering and other Proceeds of Crime Offences. She recently acted as junior in a week long confiscation hearing held entirely in private due to its sensitive and complex nature.

SOPO, SCPO and VOOs

Eleanor is used to dealing with ancillary orders, whether stand alone or following trial. As mentioned above, she drafted the first SCPO applied for by the SFO and recently represented the Met Police when one of the first Violent Offence Orders were granted. She has also experience in prosecuting breaches of such orders, having secured a conviction at the Old Bailey for a breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
