Tom Little’s practice focuses heavily on criminal, fraud and regulatory cases. He is ranked as a Leading Junior for Crime and for Fraud in Chambers UK and the Legal 500.
In criminal and fraud matters Tom both prosecutes and defends. Tom regularly appears in homicide cases at the Old Bailey. He has undertaken two cases for the SFO both of which resulted in convictions against all the Defendants and has successfully represented the SFO in the Administrative Court. Tom is a Grade 4 prosecutor (on both the CPS fraud and rape lists) and is also on the Panel of the Attorney General's List of Prosecuting Counsel. Tom has particular expertise in relation to restraint, asset recovery and confiscation proceedings and frequently advises on issues arising from the overlap between criminal and civil proceedings. He is Security Cleared and Developed Vetted and has significant experience of PII and the disclosure of material of the highest sensitivity. Tom is regularly instructed in complex criminal cases involving huge volumes of telephone and cell site evidence.
He has appeared in and advised on a large number of Judicial Review cases linked to criminal investigations and in particular relating to the execution of search warrants as well as decisions as to whether or not to prosecute. He has also appeared in a large number of Case Stated Appeals in the Divisional Court.
Tom has significant experience of appearing before the First Tier Tribunal (Care Standards) instructed by the T Sols as well as appearing in MTIC cases in the First Tier Tribunal (Tax).
Tom represents the Metropolitan Police in relation to civil actions against the Police and Inquests as well as applications for ASBOs, SOPOs, cash seizures and closure orders. He is one of the joint authors of the Law Society book 'Preventative Orders a Practical Guide' published in September 2010. He has also appeared in a number of Shotgun/ Firearms licence appeals.
Tom was appointed by the Lord Chancellor to sit on the Criminal Procedure Rule Committee in 2004 and was therefore responsible for the introduction of the Criminal Procedure Rules which came in to force on 4th April 2005. The Lord Chancellor reappointed Tom to the Committee for a further period of 4 years in 2007.

R v Dlugosz and Wyrostek (2011) Prosecuted manslaughter trial involving the binding and gagging of a lone female in her 80s during the course of a burglary. She was left tied up and died of hypothermia. Case involved complex bad character and LCN DNA arguments.

R v Abrahams and Allen (2011) Prosecuted double attempted murder trial. Case involved a drug deal related shooting and was heavily based on expert evidence relating to cell site and firearms residue.
R v Lindsay (2011) Prosecuted murder case in which it was alleged the Defendant beat his parter to death and then set fire to her to hide his crime and make it look as though he was not the perpetrator.
R v Langlands (2011) Prosecuted murder by repeated stabbing to the head of 83 year old by her grandson. Case involved novel arguments on the partial defence of Diminished Responsibility.
R (Firth) v Epping Magistrates' Court [2011] 1 W.L.R. 1818 Appeared on behalf of the DPP in important Judicial Review claim relating to the admissibility of the contents of a Case Progression Form completed by the Defendant's advocate.

R v Varsani (2009 - 2010) [2011] 1 Cr.App.R.(S) 96 Represented the Prosecution in Ipswich Crown Court and in the Court of Appeal in this important sentencing and confiscation decision which determined the value of duty evaded on counterfeit cigarettes.

R v Khalisadar & Others (2008 - 2009) Prosecuted a nine Defendant case involving a knife-point stranger rape and a sophisticated conspiracy to pervert the course of justice linked to the East London Mosque. Much of the investigation was undertaken by the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command. The case involved a wealth of complex expert evidence as well as a number of novel Human Rights arguments.

Police Law
The London Borough of Lewisham v D & Others (2010) [2010] EWHC 1238 and 1239 (Fam) Appeared on behalf of the police in two separate High Court applications relating to the use of and disclosure of DNA between family and criminal proceedings and vice versa.
