Andrew Ritchie QC and Shahram Sharghy represent the families of the victims of a terrorist attack
Andrew Ritchie QC and Shahram Sharghy of 9 Gough Square, instructed by Irwin Mitchell solicitors together with Esther Maclachlan (who was seconded to work in house for the firm), represented the Gaviria and the John families in their claims for damages under the Fatal Accidents Act 1976 against BP Plc and two BP subsidiary companies arising from the terrorist attack in January 2013 by Al Qaeda in the Islamic Magreb (AQIM) on the BP jointly operated In Amenas gas processing plant in Algeria.
The pleaded claims were that the companies did not properly protect their employees from the risk of attack. The trial was listed in the High Court for 9 weeks starting on 11th February 2019. The claims have been settled on confidential terms with no admission of liability by BP. YiP J approved the settlements for the children.
