Practice Details

After completing his pupillage and being called to the Bar in 1981 Martin joined the Government Legal Service firstly with the Crown Prosecution Service where he became an Assistant Branch Crown Prosecutor and then with the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) where, as a Case Controller, he was responsible for the investigation and prosecution of 18 cases of serious fraud all of which resulted in the conviction of the principal offender.

Since joining Chambers in September 2003 he has continued to specialise in serious fraud work: he is presently instructed by the SFO on a fraud involving losses in excess of £100 million and has also been instructed on other cases by the Ministry of Defence and Customs.

In tandem with his fraud work, in the past three years Martin has been developing a general crime practice involving work for both Prosecution and Defence. Amongst others, he has successfully conducted cases of serious violence, sexual offences and dishonesty. He is presently instructed to defend a case of rape, kidnapping and false imprisonment and to prosecute a seven handed conspiracy to cultivate cannabis.
